Victoria West artists studio tour Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Email: info(at)vicwestartquest(dot)com
This is the third year for the Vic West Art Quest, a studio tour organized by artists living and working throughout the Victoria West community. You are invited to the opening reception on Friday May 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hemp & Company and the Spiral Café. Then visit the artists’ studios on Saturday May 8 and Sunday May 9 (Mother’s Day weekend) between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. . This is a self-guided tour and it is free of charge. For a list of our sponsors, click here.
Vic West is proud to have a vibrant and growing arts community. In addition to the many artists working in studios in their homes, other artists live outside of the community but work in studios within Vic West. The Spiral Café is home to The Spiral Groove (old time string band music), Victoria Swing Orchestra and Children of Celebrities, and is a weekly venue for many other musical groups. Popular Spinakers Gastro Brewpub hosts live music three days a week. The Spiral Café, Hemp & Company and Buon Amici’s Coffee all host monthly art shows on their walls.
The first Vic West cob bench is just off Craigflower Rd. at Raynor Ave., in Banfield Commons, an “edible park” planted by members of the Vic West community. This bench was under construction during the 2006 Vic West Fest. The second artistic Vic West cob bench was built partly during last year’s Vic West Art Quest at St. Saviours United Church (310 Henry St.).
The Vic West Art Quest is timed to coordinate with the Vic West Fest (Saturday, May 8, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.), “a day to recognize all that is happening in Vic West and to celebrate the diversity of the neighbourhood”. The Fest is held annually in Banfield Park surrounding the Vic West Y (521 Craigflower Rd.).
Map brochures for the Vic West Art Quest will be available at the Vic West Y, Hemp & Company, and the Spiral Café. (For those with slow connections to the Internet, a low resolution version of the brochure is also available: click here.)
