Victoria West artists studio tour

This is the first year for the Vic West Art Quest, a studio tour organized by artists living and working throughout the Victoria West community. You are invited to the opening reception on Friday May 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. and to visit the artists’ studios between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday May 10 and Sunday May 11. Vic West is proud to have a vibrant and growing arts community. In addition to the many artists working in studios in their homes, other artists live outside of the community but work in studios within Vic West:  Xchanges Gallery and Studios has eighteen individual and group studios. The Spiral Café is home to The Spiral  Groove (old time string band music), Victoria Swing Orchestra and Children of Celebrities, and is a weekly venue for many other musical groups. Popular Spinakers Gastro Brewpub hosts live music three days a week. The Spiral Café, Hemp & Company and Buon Amici’s Coffee all host monthly art shows on their walls. The Trackside Art Gallery off Hereward Street showcases the works of emerging and established artists on 32 giant flood-lit canvasses mounted high on a long wall.

 

The Vic West Art Quest is timed to coordinate with the Vic West Fest, “a day to recognize all that is happening in Vic West and to celebrate the diversity of the neighbourhood”. The Fest is held annually in Banfield Park surrounding the Vic West Y (521 Craigflower Rd.). This year the Fest will be on Saturday May 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Map brochures for the Vic West Art Quest will be available at the Vic West Y.
