Vic West Art  Quest

2008

Self-Guided Tour

You are invited to visit the artists’ studios, including those in Xchanges Gallery and Studios, on Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11. (There is no charge for visiting any of the open studios nor for visiting any of the other venues on the Vic West Art Quest.) A map of Vic West, with all of the artists’ studios and other artistic points of interest marked, is available in the Quest map brochure (available at all of the studios and shows on the Quest), and an interactive Google® map of the Quest can be found here. Each venue will be identified with a banner. Vic West is small enough that it is possible to walk or bike to many or even all of the studios in one day, but you may wish to take it slow and visit a portion of them on each of the two days. That way you can spend more time at each artist’s studio/home to talk with them and view their art. Each artist will also have one of their pieces on display at Hemp & Company (418 Craigflower Rd.), so be sure to visit the group show there, as well. This group show will continue for the entire month of May.

In addition to the open studios, the Quest also includes on-going exhibitions at two coffee houses in Vic West: Buon Amici’s Coffee (645 Tyee Rd.), showing the work of Shayne Lloyd; and Spiral Café (418 Craigflower Rd.), showing the work of Pam Campbell and Alice Hawes.

Be sure to also visit St. Saviours United Church (310 Henry St.), where artist and poet Matthew Cook is working with members of the Vic West community to create Vic West’s second artistic cob bench. Come help Matthew build the bench and learn about this fascinating construction technique!

(The first Vic West cob bench is just off Craigflower Rd. at Raynor Ave., in Banfield Commons, an “ edible park” planted by members of the Vic West community. This bench was under construction during the 2006 Vic West Fest.)

Further details on each of the artists on the Vic West Art Quest may be found by clicking on the links on the list of artists.
