During the summer of 2006 the Banfield Cob Bench was a community building project within the community garden, Banfield Commons. Artistic design and construction was lead by natural builder Stephanie Enevolden of TerraCobba Designs. Volunteers worked with Stephanie making the cob bench from a mixture of local clay, sand and straw, applying it to a rock foundation and adding a finishing coat of earthern plaster, linseed oil and beeswax. The cob material allows for the addition of sculptures and tile mosaic into the functional bench, which provides a resting place within the garden. The food tree with roots of embracing arms and offering hands carries the theme "Sustenance for All", which reflects the edible garden that provides food for humans, birds and beneficial insects. To recognize our marine neighbours, the otter on the back with his starfish represents the close relationship humans have with our surrounding natural environment and therefore the need to be aware of our impacting actions.
